Happiness is What You Make of It

The ever widening “happiness” gap between women and men has been appearing in the news recently.  Articles like “He’s Happy, She’s Less So” explain in detail the gap of happiness between men and women.  They show statistics that reveal women are considerably less happy than men. In this blog, written by Stevin Levitt, he explains how women have become less and less happy.  He says that women have taken on a role similar to men, because they work full-time jobs now as well as being mothers and wives.  Many sources accredit this happiness decrease to women’s role changing over the past 20-30 years.

I also have a few ideas as to why women are less satisfied with their lives. Women are now taking on more than ever before. They work an eight hour day and then come home, take care of the children, and clean the house as well.  Many girls grow up picturing their ideal lifestyle.  They will have the perfect husband, job, family and life and these women become easily frustrated and disappointed when they don’t get exactly what they planned.  Aside from all this, many women also are much more vocal about their feelings now compared to 20 years ago and are far more open about their feelings of happiness.

Overall I think that a woman’s role has definitely changed over the past few years.  And although women are taking on more and more they need to take time, relax, and just enjoy what they have in life.  Instead of worrying about how satisfied with their lives they are women need to go out and do what makes them happy.
